Henry is living in between two worlds. Depending on the situation and the day, he either identifies as being "little" or "big". I'm not sure if its been because I have been physically less able to play with him over the past week, or the fact that we had 2 date nights last weekend, which disrupted his normal routine, or he is sensing the changes that are on the horizon, but this past week has been a challenge for our normally light-hearted little/big guy. There have been frequent meltdowns, tantrums and just a general obstinance as well. Well I'm sure a lot of this is just typical 2 year old behavior of testing boundaries, its hard not to read into his behavior and feel a little guilt (already) about how becoming a big brother is going to impact him.
And even though I am reminded of that we are all about to have a shift in family roles momentarily, I am comforted by the many sweet and tender moments we have together. My favorites recently have been when I've been putting him to bed. The other night as we were getting tucked in, I curled up beside him in his toddler bed {a very tight squeeze these days} and he said, "kiss my elbow". I was dying laughing, but had to oblige, of course. Then he said, "kiss my other elbow." He is too funny. And among his silliness, he also said the other night at bedtime, "I love my mama. I love you so much." Ahh...my heart was melting/exploding simultaneously. And while I know things are going change, and it will probably be difficult at times, I hope to continue to foster all the sweetness, silliness and fun-loving attitude that makes Henry the perfect little/big boy that he is.
