There is a certain kind of peer pressure among moms in Portland to prove who can be the most crunchy, granola, natural, DIY goddess of motherhood. And I readily admit that I am not immune to these pressures and have found something considering different parenting ideas, baby products and what not to be considered "hip" in the eyes of other mamas.
The other week I feel I may have reached what could be my pinnacle of coolness as a Portland mom. On my treasured Mondays off, I headed to mommy/baby yoga to start things off right. After said yoga class I trotted over to Milagros, a local baby boutique, threw Henry in the ergo and purchased him his very own amber teething necklace, promised to ease the pain of teething (not intended for chewing on). Then I ran a quick errand to ikea, slightly suburban by nature, but still with the approved realm of cool. Then the greatest triumph of my groovy mommy day concluded with our first attempt at elimination communication, or EC, when Henry went pee on the toilet after is nap. If you are curious what the heck I'm talking about, google it, it's awesome.
While I haven't started making our own diapers and clothes, I feel I may be well on my way to being a bonafide portland mama.
And even if the teething necklace doesn't really have empirical evidence to back it up, he sure looks cute wearing it.
