I'll admit I was absolutely terrified of the day that Jon would go back to work. Fortunately, I have super supportive friends and family and my first week, which only consisted of 2 days, Olivia joined me in the morning with just Chester and then MIL took Henry in the morning the second day so I could take Leo to his 2 week check up.
Baby drool. Love it.
So on the first day, I was so happy to have Olivia, who has already survived 2 months of being on her own with Arthur and Chester. And because Arthur was back to school that day, she figured she would be able show me the ropes of mothering two little ones. She has some great games to play with Henry while nursing. She helped us get to the park and let Henry ride on her cool "skateboard" attached to her stroller. And she even washed our lunch dishes when I was upstairs getting Henry down for a nap. Don't you love it when mama friends are around? Nobody else quite gets it like they do! Henry loved having Olivia there and was thrilled to have Chester too, and kept exclaiming, "I have two babies!", when she first arrived. And when he woke up from his nap he said, "I go downstairs and play with 'Livia".
And with Karen's help the following day, I was able to enjoy a quiet morning with Leo. At his two week appointment, Leo was weighing in at 12lbs already and 23.5 inches (we think they underestimated his length when he was born, because growing 2 inches in 2 weeks seems like a lot!). Nap time on the second day went more smoothly as I embraced the wonders of the baby swing for Leo and sort of figured out how to nurse both at the same time. And it appears from the iPhone pics that the only time I have to take photos is when we are sleeping.
This week seemed easier and more manageable as we fell into a comfortable routine. We even made it on few outings including a haircut for Henry and a trip to the library for toddler story time. I'm relishing all the fun family activities that I can enjoy while on leave. Next week we start a couple soccer classes at the local community center and this past week we started Music Together classes again.
Rocking his skinny jeans before his haircut.
Scarf dance time at the library story hour.
In conclusion, I have survived. And I dare to say, I even had some fun too
