This is my second week back at work and I have to say, its not that bad. Granted, it is very slow at work and I currently have a caseload of about 4 clients, which makes it quite easy to finish up my notes and plan for sessions in advanced. The other great thing that I have been enjoying is that on the days that my mom or mother-in-law watch Henry, they are at my house so I can come home from work during my lunch break and feed Henry. Its not quite as cushy as the crèches in France, à la Bringing up Bebe, which allow mothers to come twice a day to feed their babies (not to mention the employers that allow this as well), but it is a lovely way to break up the day.
Working part time definitely has its perks as well. And knowing that I consistently have Mondays off and can go to mommy/baby yoga and still get a little dose of what maternity leave felt like makes the transition all the more gentle. Not to mention working 7 hour days is not so bad, especially on the days that I have a Henry intermission right in the middle.
The only real change I have noticed is that before I went back to work, Henry was sort of waking up at 3am, and I would give him the binkie and he would fall back asleep. Now, he is not so easily soothed and wants to nurse, which I am happy to oblige, as I am missing out on those Henry snuggles as well.
Yes, there are bumps along the way, but we are making it work. The only thing I detest is pumping at work. Its super time consuming and just annoying in general. Especially because my office has extra high AC, and pumping the cold is no fun. So I welcome any suggestions from mamas on how to make it easier. Obviously a space heater is a must. However, I feel super grateful that my supply is remaining and I'm able to keep feeding him breast milk.
