Admitted!, Ferning, and New Souls

Jon, i.e. I, am now taking over the blog as Margot is hooked up to fetal monitoring and lying on her side with regular contractions.  Yes, its true, we were admitted into labor and delivery this evening, and we are excited to hear the baby's heartbeat continuously on the machine as we turn the lights down and wait for the overnight medicine to go into effect to speed up labor.

Its amazing that we are finally here at the hospital, and like it or not, the baby is on its way...probably, if not certainly in the next 24 hours.  I went out to the car to get the suitcase after we knew we were staying and saw a bunch of people in a room sitting in a circle, and thought it must be a support group or something, and then I saw a butcher paper sign with sharpie writing that read CHILDBIRTH CLASS, and recognized the group of expectant couples canoodling with their partners and rubbing their bellies just like Margot and I did a few months ago.  Little do they know, I thought, whats in store.  They are in the preseason, and we are about to start the big game..and let the games begin.

After finding out that Margot's water had in fact broken by the nurse, she described an image that amniotic fluid produces under the microscope called ferning (apparently there is some other ferning that happens when cells are around estrogen).  This intrigued me because I have always enjoyed ferns, being an Oregonian, they are sort of a state plant of some kind, for all you east coasters.  (That, and moss are highly revered out in the Northwest).  Anyway, I googled it and it looks like this:

Amazing right?  It kind of reminds me of the old botanical books where they sketch the leaf, a flower, a root and a few seeds, very natural.  Anyway, we have dialed down the lights, and put on some Yael Naim, and ready to rest for the big day ahead as we prepare to welcome a 'new soul' into the world.  More to come later.

And if you watch the video, Margot and I tried to decorate the room as nice as Yael, but we decided NOT to put up wallpaper.
