california spring break 2016

This April we made our annual pilgrimage to Palm Desert with my parents and my sister and her family. Growing up, my family, including grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, would always get together at Cannon Beach in the summer. Those summer time memories are some of my favorite in my childhood. I remember waking up to get special donuts from the Cannon Beach bakery, playing soccer, flying kites, playing "Peter Rabbit" with my Grandma in the sand dunes, trips to Bruce's candy shop...it was all so special. I feel so fortunate that we have been able to provide the same for our kids as my mom graciously finds houses large enough to accommodate our growing herd. This year we went on two major adventures, first to Joshua Tree National Park and then to Disneyland (thanks to my parents for helping pay for our entry). The rest of the time was spent lounging around to pool and enjoying the desert sunshine. Henry had lots of time to practice swimming and we proudly was able to swim without his floaties this year. Soren and Brody were great helps with the littler boys and helped keep them playing harmoniously and having fun. Leo gave a little scare and decided to jump into the deep end with no one there to catch him. Fortunately Jon had a quick response and dove in to scoop him up from the bottom of the pool, and he didn't even cough upon his return to the surface. I guess he figured out how to hold his breath! Lastly, we celebrated Henry's 4th birthday. I'm so grateful for such wonderful memories to have shared all together as a family.
