This 4th of July we headed to southern Oregon, because it wasn't quite hot enough in Portland [insert sarcastic tone]. We joined up with our friends from Costa Rica, who are both native Oregonians as well and some of their friends from Medford. We thoroughly enjoyed the lovely scenery and landscape along the Illinois River in the Siskiyou National Forest. Despite the fact that I underestimated the physicality of camping at 8 months pregnant (think multiple bathroom trips in the middle of the night), the queen size blow up mattress that I insisted Jon bring, sprung a leak and we woke up both of the mornings flat on the ground and the campground's surrounding vegetation was largely composed on poison oak, we had a great time! This river, unlike many glacier fed rivers in Oregon, was a super pleasant temperature, which was the perfect way to beat the heat as the mercury soared into the triple digits. We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful state!
