Solistice, the light and dark

We just passed through the shortest day of the year and officially begin our journey back to light from out of the darkness. Its a time of birth and re-birth. It's a time of year to reflect and absorb, where we have been and where we are going. It is also a time to embrace the darkness.

Unfortunately, this season has also been infused with sadness and loss. Last Sunday, we learned that Jon's 7 month old niece was in a terrible accident, resulting in severe trauma to her brain. She remains in critical condition at Doernbecher's and all that is left is to pray and hope for the best. But mostly it just feels devastating and unfair.

It is also unfortunate that it often takes moments like this to remind us, however painful it may be, that life is temporary and we have no idea how long we have with each other. Every day I hold my babies that much closer, breathing in their sweet smell and savoring their wonder for the world. While I long for more certainty in this life, it also helps put things in perspective a bit more.

So, I dedicate this post to sweet baby Chloe. The most darling girl who could literally light up the world with her smiles and delight. Sending you prayers of healing, peace and love in this very dark moment of the year, wishes that we all may find the light that you so easily possessed and shared. You are loved.
