It's been several weeks, perhaps months now, since we transitioned Henry out of our room. We've come up with a new system to keep Henry accustomed to sleeping in his own space. Usually it involves me putting Henry to bed, where he actually sleeps in his crib for 2-3 hours. Big improvement. Then when we wakes up, it usually involves me or Jon spending the rest of the night down stairs sleeping on the futon mattress that has been permanently stationed in his room since the big transition. And this is where the progress seems somewhat stationary.
Don't get me wrong. This has been a huge improvement from where we were before. Having those couple hours to myself once Henry is asleep in his crib has felt luxurious. I have even found time to occasionally do things like, paint my nails, do some yoga and other needed self care. And the nights that Jon is down there with him, I often get to sleep on my own until 4am, and it feels amazing. However, Henry still loves to nurse throughout the night and when I sleep with him, I feel like I have no means to cut him off, especially as he has become increasingly savvy with gaining access, with or without my permission.
So, what's a tired mama to do? As a mental health professional, I know to well the impacts of poor sleep on a person's daily functioning and am overly aware that I often come to work feeling foggy and far from being on top of my game. And this morning as Jon talked about wanting to go golfing this afternoon, to which I replied, "its not fair", like a whiny 6 year old, I feel that I am again a breaking point {again}. Anyone with some magic answers out there? Anyone? Anyone?
