a little water on the head

A couple months ago, Jon turned to me and said, I think we should get Henry baptized. This caught me off guard, to say the least, especially coming from Jon. But truth be told, I had also been thinking about how I would like to be part of some sort of organized community, at least to have a home base where we could go for a Christmas mass or Easter service, as I grew up doing. Because I had been raised Episcopal technically, we decided to start there and attended an lovely and welcoming Easter service at Trinity Church. We signed up for baptismal classes and a few weeks later, we have a newly baptized babe.

Honestly, I'm not sure I buy the whole "original sin" business, as I'm pretty sure kiddos come into this world with more of a tabula rasa (à la Rousseau), but I do like the idea of giving Henry a specific affiliation, if only for the fact that one day he can grow up and say, "Yea, I was raised Episcopal, but I'm actually more of an atheist, pagan, hindu...whatever!" The point being he can choose for himself one day. And at this juncture, there doesn't seem to be much harm with a little water on his head.
